Why it stalls
Most tools treat traditional as a display setting.
They store simplified and convert on the way out, which mangles the cases where the mapping is not one to one and quietly teaches you the wrong form. It also means your saved words, your review queue and your reading level are shared with a script you are not studying, so progress in one shows up as progress in the other.
